ibisPaint is a free illustration and manga drawing app. The UI design is optimized for smartphones and tablets. In addition to more than 2500 textures and screentones, it also has a full range of manga production features such as a frame border function. And it can support B5 or A5 canvases that have a 600 dpi resolution, a requirement for printing black-and-white comics.

The free version displays ads and limits the number of brushes. Watching an ad will unlock these functions for a limited amount of time. Purchasing the paid version removes ads and brush restrictions. If you become a premium member of their monthly membership system, you can use the member-only filters as well.

Compare it to the desktop version however, and you might discover your favorite brushes or filters are nowhere to be found.Without PSD file support, print size settings, or the ability to edit with a selection tool you might find that you cannot create as freely on the iPad.

Be aware that you will not be able to get the same raster brush drawing experience as the desktop version. Additionally you will also not get the same typography editing nor will not be able to input links to resources in the file. If you want the full design tool experience you might just want to get the desktop version.

I'm that 5G guy. I've actually been here for every "G." I've reviewed well over a thousand products during 18 years working full-time at PCMag.com, including every generation of the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S. I also write a weekly newsletter, Fully Mobilized, where I obsess about phones and networks.

I got 7 hours and 25 minutes of video streaming on full brightness with the tablet's 8,000mAh battery. That translates to a full day's worth of use, and is better than most iPads I've tested. It charges back up in 80 minutes on a 45W or greater charger.

The other problem is that the Tab S8 simply doesn't offer as premium an experience as iPads and Windows tablets. Creative types don't have as many apps at their disposal, and Samsung's Dex mode isn't ready for full-scale productivity. Ultimately, the pricing is a Samsung problem and the apps are an Android problem.

If you're willing to look beyond Android, the $599 HP Chromebook X2 ($599) includes a keyboard and a pen, so while it's noticeably slower than the Tab S8, it's substantially more affordable. In addition, Microsoft offers an Intel Core i3 version of the Surface Go 3 tablet ($569) that you can outfit with a Surface Go Type Cover ($99.99). That device runs the full version of Microsoft 365 apps and Photoshop.
